About NSIJA

NSIJA is an ambitious journey led by skilled craftsmen, inspired designers and passionate entrepreneurs. Its main mission is to promote the art of hand weaving of premium natural fibers in a fair and sustainable fashion.

Artisans

At Nsija, we aim at honoring Tunisian craftmanship, improving the lives of artisans and their families and ensuring hand-weaving know-how continue to shine over generations. Our artisans are the driving force behind our project. They are the custodians of an ancient heritage which they managed to preserve over time. They are so passionate about their art ; they proudly recon that « they weave as they breathe », they just have it in their bloods !

Design

Our designs use contemporary colorways and motifs, blended with age-old
techniques and patterns.
Made the same way for millennia, Tunisian textiles were handwoven to offer natural warmth and decorated with ancestral symbols to provide spiritual protection.
We are thriving to keep this emotional connection in each Nsija’s design while adding a fresh and modern touch to make a unique piece of art.

Process

Weaving is an ancient craft that dates back through all cultures for thousands of years.Hand looming is a complicated process that requires patience, dedication and care. Producing a single NSIJA textile requires approximately 7-8 hours of preparation and delicate weaving, 24,000 strokes and 7 kilometers of natural yarns! From wrap preparation to finishing, everything is handmade. Our Handmade process uses no water and no electricity. The only energy is human.

Heritage

One of our missions is to preserve local culture heritage through the revival of the hand weaving sector and the empowerment of local artisans.
We believe the most effective way to protect such rich heritage is to promote it and to bring it back to life to become the main driver of sustainable economic and social development.
We cherish our roots, and we have deep appreciation and respect for ancient knowledge.
What we do at NSIJA is a connection with that wisdom and a celebration of timeless art.
